French Battlefields has developed internet applications utilizing Google Maps to identify and present some of most historic battlefields in northern Europe. Google Maps provides roadmap, terrain, and satellite views of the battlefield while selected sites are identified by simple and easy to recognize custom map icons. Brief descriptions of each location are presented by clicking on a particular icon and French Battlefields utilizes its extensive photographic inventory to present images of the selected location or artifact. Other sites in the vicinity that may be of interest to visitors are also indicated. Clickable links offer instant access to museum websites to assist in planning an actual tour. Now the military history enthusiast can tour these famous battlefields, view the existing terrain, road network, and nearby towns and villages from their computer, smart phone or other portable internet device.
